The PCOS Diaries

1. Today my face is on fire and swollen. It burns from laser hair removal. Because of PCOS, I felt the need to get the removal which is just a reduction. I will still have my signature mustache but it will be more like peach fuzz than a true 'stache just not the accompanying stubble, 5 o'clock shadow, and beard that started to appear.

2. My stomach is giving birth to itself. Metformin (generic Glucophage) is making me feel this way.

3. The topical Progesterone and Yaz is making my hormones rage out of control.

I know some that read this blog have PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome) and/or IRS (Insulin Resistancy Sydrome). How is it going? How do you cope?

Cold aloe vera gel from Target/Wal-Mart works for the laser hair treatments. Whoever did my treatment would immediately put it on my face afterward. When I got home I would gently wash my face using mild soap and cold water.

As far as Metformin, I've blogged about my hate for it. I really don't travel too far from home because my stomach gripes so badly. Pepto-Bismuth is supposed to help, but I haven't tried it yet. I'm taking 500mg a day as opposed to the 1000mg I was prescribed. I really should be on 1500. The only reason I'm taking these pills is because the health plan pays for them.

I've had to lay off ice-cream. What a hot mess my stomach goes through with that.

Hang in there Sophia!

Sorry you are going through this Sis.
I hope that it gets better.

I have a question about PCOS does the symptoms that you have from this condition, is on and off or do they last all th time?

With the Met i'm suppose to take it 2x daily. Suppose to be 3x ( ain't gonna happen). However I take it at night or midday because other wise I feel like crap. Even after years of taking it. However I have found that the craving for sugar that went away has found its way back into my life. As long as I eat whole grains and nothing white, processed, refined I can keep the cravings at bay. I love dairy but it does not love me. Good thing our home is meat and dairy free. I want to just stop taking it but without it I will not have a cycle. Regardless to what people are telling women now I know that absence of a cycle is not a good thing. My last test results revealed most everything was normal but for the first time in my life I have low Potassium, low creatine and high LDL. That I am not happy about.

I can't afford laser so I have chosen the epilady. I do have to use it everyday. If I don't you better believe I will not leave the house. I have developed an upper and lower stomach. Hard to hide in pants.
We will figure out how to make it throught this. You're doing a great job already!

Thanks everyone for your kind words.

@ Brwn Butterfly- PCOS last all the time until you are cured for good meaning you have no more cysts on your ovaries.

Hi. Just came across your blog and read about the PCOS diagnoses. I recommend that you try Moringa. I had PCOS and drank Moringa as a tea for three months (I continue to drink it just because it makes me feel great) and at my next visit the PCOS had all gone - no lie! Do a search on Moringa for yourself. In anycase, it has wonderful benefits with no harm as far as i can tell even if it doesn't cure your PCOS.

Good luck, and I hope you feel better. :)
