My Daddy Didn't Even Do This

Photos courtesy of Clifton Green.

Ok, so awhile ago I found an article that caught my eye. It was about a White father, who happens to be an Atlantan, that does his adopted Ethiopian daughter's hair. His name is Clifton Green, and he is an outstanding guy who gave me the permission to post the photos and blog about him.

I must admit it made me a tad jealous that my dad never did my hair though he was/is always there for me.

Clifton Green believes in keeping his daughter's (Miriam's) hair natural. Yay! She initially had bald patches from malnutrition. He ended up doing her hair as his wife was pregnant at the time of Miriam's arrival. When her hair grew, he got ideas from African-American families who had children with natural hair.

This is him styling it before church. He does have a rat tail comb; but, I guess, a fork would do. She has so much hair. He is sectioning the hair with elastic bands to twist to the ends and securing the ends with barrettes.

Here is a photo of all her hair products. Amazing! You know I had to tell him about Sisterlocks and who the only thing I use is shampoo...Vaseline is a no-no. He said he prefers Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla Leave-In Conditioner for Dry Hair.

Here is the final result:

Clifton and Miriam plan to tackle cornrows next. He wrote that he has a long way to go, lol!

Absolutely beautiful! At first I thought the first photo was a painting. Wow. My dad raised me from the age of 6,I lost my mom then. He never did my hair himself, I remember him taking me to a salon in the mornings before school! LOL
I just lost my dad last week also so this was very touching to my soul.

Yeah, I saw this on youtube and was so moved particularly bc it reminded me of how hubby(he's white) used to do my oldest daughter's hair. She is from a previous marriage so she's dark like me with plenty of coily hair. She's 22yrs old now and wears locs. He even used a fork then too! He started doing her hair cos I was always pregnant with 1 or other of our other 4 children. He used to tighten my 1st set of locs too!

Wow that is beautiful.

Not only to see a dad doing his daughter's hair but a white dad doing black daughters hair. I've seen many bi-racial children whose white mothers didn't know what to do with it and struggled. He goes to show that it's not that difficult to care for. My dad used to do mine and my sister's hair every so often. I r'ber him washing it and even greasing it. It never got the handle of plaiting but i think it's cos his fingers are so big :)

Lovely father and daughter moment

Nice post :o) My husband use to do my stepdaughter's hair too - she had plaits sticking up everywhere, crazy looking parts and all and nobody could tell her nothin' cause "my daddy did my hair!" she would say.

When we first met I attempted to teach him how to cornrow but that failed. I did manage to teach him how to connect the plaits together though. Of course, I eventually took over the hairstyles and now at age 11 she wont let him go near her hair :o)

That is a beautiful thing, he needs to get in contact with Angelina Jolie, tell them what to do with Zahara's hair!! (I hope I spelled her name right) My dad would style my hair when I was younger...I don't have too many fond memories with the two of us but that's one I do have, Minus the color coordination lol. It's had a lasting effect on me because I find guys playing in my hair to be one of the most endearing things. :)

yay for that dad!

Wow, I don't have anything to say but WOW! This is one amazing and 100% committed dad. And for him to be white and have nothing to go on. Definitely not his own head. This is truly touching. If my dad had stayed, I wish he would have done my hair.

So beautiful, and he does such a great job with her hair. I'm pretty sure my Black father couldn't do as good a job as this man does.

This is so adorable. It reminds me of how my dad used to grease my scalp when I was a child. Fond memories indeed.

Wow, his twists look too perfect, almost better than mine! He did an excellent job. Only one time when I was little did my dad do my hair, but that was only when I had to take out my braids. He combed the heck out of my thick tribal hair with a fine tooth comb and I cried because I was in so much pain.

Wow thanks for sharing that, that's incredible. I'm mad at the fork though. Dang, my daddy couldn't even put our hair in a ponytail that's why I got my early (5 yo) braiding skills.
